Last week it was impossible to want for a better night for track racing but tonight it was better again- clearly nothing is impossible. This weeks stella landing was Commonwealth games medallist, Japanese Kerin jockey and local boy Simon van Velthooven. Another good turnout from the cyclists with 24 riders across the grades.

On the first lap the dozen of us all stayed together until the first hill out of Ashhurst, 3 , Brian Busche and Neville Weir rode away from the rest of us, I sat on the back following Colin Andersons wheel, but when I climbed out of the seat for that final push over the top my bladder made its presence felt, I pushed to try and keep Colin and the other 2 (not sure of their names) in touch but the need to wee out weighed the need to keep them in touch. I stopped for a moment of relief and carried on.

It would be impossible to want for a better night to open the track season than the one presented tonight. The wind was on leave the sun was visible the sky was clear the track was hot and then when we thought things couldn’t get any better he arrived. Like the morning sun over the horizon or cavalry over the ridge Jesse Sergent appeared resplendent in Radioshack skinsuit, heads turned conversations stopped and we all new we had front row seats for the best show in town.

This week I’ve implemented the club events calendar. If things go to plan, this calendar will be the hub of BikeManwatu activities planning. The Sunday rides for Nov have been entered as well as various other planned events.
Also provided is an “Upcoming Events” box on the site’s homepage. That should provide quick access to the next 5 events on the calendar.
