Volunteers Required Please 2019-2020
2019 – 2020 Race calendar here

Road Racing doesn’t happen without the hard work of many.
We are always seeking new Volunteer Superstars for our club events to continue
Each season we want to recruit and train up more volunteers, so that we can roster the roles around each week so that not the same people are each week. If you are new to a role, we will aim to offer advice and training where possible / as you learn we will have you working with an experienced person, until you are familiar with the task.
There are many roles that need to be filled including:
- Marshalls – generally at least 3 for each race
- Lead / Sag Vehicles
- Judges
- Time keepers – We would love to train as many people as possible to use our awesome new timing equipment.
- Registrations
- First Aid
- Traffic Management – STMS
- Handicapping
- Report writing- please let us know if you are interested in writing a report about the racing to be posted on the BM web site after each meet
We are always looking for people wanting to be involved as
- Race Directors / Organizers
- Sub Committee Members for events
- Timing
If you are willing to help out this season, please let the club secretary know ( secretary@bikemanawatu.co.nz ).
With our race calendar released it would be absolutely amazing if we could get a good roster sorted to ensure our volunteers who help week in week out can get back on their bikes and ride with everyone too.
After we have a list of volunteers we can share the jobs around and post on the website each week with who is helping out.
The more volunteers we have, the easier and safer it is for everyone!

Feilding Festival of Cycling 2019 Announcement
The recent announcement by the Fitzherbert Lions that the Tour De Manawatu will no longer be Run has been met with a lot of disappointment in the cycling community, and not just in the Manawatu. People are disappointed at the demise of yet another local event and people have commented that this race was a great warm up for Taupo.
While we understand that the Fitzherbert Lions would not have made this decision lightly and it would have been difficult to make the call to put the event in to Recess.
While it would be fantastic if we could run the event, realistically we do not have the capacity to run another ‘major’ event – we already have the Feilding Festival of Cycling, The Novice Tour and the Manfeild 6 hour. BUT, we think we’ve come up with the next best thing – we’ve decided to move the date of the Feilding Festival of Cycling/Joe Allen Classic to November, so folks, save the date of Sunday November 10 – 3 weeks out from Taupo, so this event is ideal to build in to your training plan now.
We’d love to see as many of you as possible – there is an event for everyone:
- Joe Allen classic (graded handicapped race for licensed riders with cash prizes), and now open to Under 17 Riders
- 90km Recreational Ride, which will now follow the same course as the Joe Allen Classic, from Feilding to Apiti and back
- 50km Recreational Ride to Kimbolton and back
- 25km Recreational Ride to Cheltenham and back
We will have our registration and prizegiving at the Rosebowl Bakery and Cafe again this year, so bring all the family along and enjoy their tasty cabinet and menu food as well as great coffee
If any of our members, their family or wider community would like to help make the event the best it can be and be a part of our organising committee please get in touch with Keryn secretary@bikemanawatu.co.nz.

12 Month Race Calendar
Thanks to a hard working sub committee we are pleased to announce the race calendar for the next 12 months. – Click here to view
As part of our drive to get bums on seats over a broad range of ages and abilities Bike Manawatu will be running one Road Race a month over the winter months.
June is shaping up to be a busy month with 2 WCNI races, the first being a ITT and Criterium in Horowhenua on Sunday 9th followed by a Road Race hosted by us at Halcombe on Saturday 29th.
In between those events Bike Manawatu is holding a Road Race on Saturday afternoon 15th June at Taonui, in what we call the A1 loop – Pre Register Here. Same course as last year, flat but still with it’s challenges.
This loop is great for Graded road racing and an awesome road circuit to dip your toes into club racing.
In July, with the clubs Traffic Management trailer not being required for schools cycling that day, we will be running a Morning Graded Road Race on Sunday 14thJuly on the Akers Road circuit – Pre Register Here.
We had a great group of Masters riders turn up to our midweek races on this course earlier this year and it proved to be a great success.
August will come around soon enough and pending permission from the Army we head to Linton Camp for a Graded Road race around the large loop.
Manawatu Schools Cycling and the Novice Tour have had the privilege of having the use of the camp over the years to run events at the camp and we are hopeful that this will encourage the Army cyclist to pop into the higher grades and race with us on the day.
September onwards is full on, with Trust House racing in Wairarapa and our own racing building up to Taupo.
With the unfortunate news that the Tour de Manawatu is not being held this year Bike Manawatu will run Feilding Festival on the November date.
A lot of our championships will be run before midway though December, not to mention the 4 weeks of Criterium racing at Manfeild and the annual ITT series in October and December.
The entire calendar is on the Website, and course maps and times will follow in the coming weeks.
Look forward to seeing as many as riders as possible to the A1 loop on Saturday afternoon 15th June.
Entries will be online, and it would be wise to head off to an establishment for a catch up after the event…I’m in
Tim
