Feilding Festival of Cycling 2019 Announcement

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Feilding Festival of Cycling 2019 Announcement

The recent announcement by the Fitzherbert Lions that the Tour De Manawatu will no longer be Run has been met with a lot of disappointment in the cycling community, and not just in the Manawatu.  People are disappointed at the demise of yet another local event and people have commented that this race was a great warm up for Taupo.

While we understand that the Fitzherbert Lions would not have made this decision lightly and it would have been difficult to make the call to put the event in to Recess.

While it would be fantastic if we could run the event, realistically we do not have the capacity to run another ‘major’ event – we already have the Feilding Festival of Cycling, The Novice Tour and the Manfeild 6 hour.  BUT, we think we’ve come up with the next best thing – we’ve decided to move the date of the Feilding Festival of Cycling/Joe Allen Classic to November,  so folks, save the date of Sunday November 10 – 3 weeks out from Taupo, so this event is ideal to build in to your training plan now.

We’d love to see as many of you as possible – there is an event for everyone:

  • Joe Allen classic (graded handicapped race for licensed riders with cash prizes), and now open to Under 17 Riders
  • 90km Recreational Ride, which will now follow the same course as the Joe Allen Classic, from Feilding to Apiti and back
  • 50km Recreational Ride to Kimbolton and back
  • 25km Recreational Ride to Cheltenham and back

We will have our registration and prizegiving at the Rosebowl Bakery and Cafe again this year, so bring all the family along and enjoy their tasty cabinet and menu food as well as great coffee

If any of our members, their family or wider community would like to help make the event the best it can be and be a part of our organising committee please get in touch with Keryn secretary@bikemanawatu.co.nz.
