12 Month Race Calendar 2019 – 2020

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

As part of our drive to get bums on seats over a broad range of ages and abilities Bike Manawatu will be running one Road Race a month over the winter months.

June is shaping up to be a busy month with 2 WCNI races, the first being a ITT and Criterium in Horowhenua on Sunday 9th followed by a Road Race hosted by us at Halcombe on Saturday 29th.

In between those events Bike Manawatu is holding a Road Race on Saturday afternoon 15th June at Taonui, in what we call the A1 loop – Pre Register Here. Same course as last year, flat but still with it’s challenges.

This loop is great for Graded road racing and an awesome road circuit to dip your toes into club racing.

In July, with the clubs Traffic Management trailer not being required for schools cycling that day, we will be running a Morning Graded Road Race on Sunday 14thJuly on the Akers Road circuit – Pre Register Here.

We had a great group of Masters riders turn up to our midweek races on this course earlier this year and it proved to be a great success.

August will come around soon enough and pending permission from the Army we head to Linton Camp for a Graded Road race around the large loop.

Manawatu Schools Cycling and the Novice Tour have had the privilege of having the use of the camp over the years to run events at the camp and we are hopeful that this will encourage the Army cyclist to pop into the higher grades and race with us on the day.

September onwards is full on, with Trust House racing in Wairarapa and our own racing building up to Taupo.

With the unfortunate news that the Tour de Manawatu is not being held this year Bike Manawatu will run Feilding Festival on the November date.

A lot of our championships will be run before midway though December, not to mention the 4 weeks of Criterium racing at Manfeild and the annual ITT series in October and December.

The entire calendar is on the Website, and course maps and times will follow in the coming weeks.

Look forward to seeing as many as riders as possible to the A1 loop on Saturday afternoon 15th June.

Entries will be online, and it would be wise to head off to an establishment for a catch up after the event…I’m in
