Findlays Find Form at Hub Tour

The Findlay brothers rode strongly in the Ramblers The Hub Tour in the Hawkes Bay at the weekend but it was the younger Findlay siblings, Mark and Angus, and not former U23 National Road Champion Tom, featuring in the results.

In the highly competitive U17 Boys Grade Mark placed second in the opening prologue (6 km Individual Time Trial) and 1st in Stage 1 (Road Race) and 1st in the Stage 2 Criterium and completed the tour in 3rd place in the General Classification. Older brother Angus was competing in his first competitive event, having only decided to take up cycling in the last 6 months.

Track Cycling Results–14 Dec 2010

Track Cycling Results–14 Dec 2010

PB300628The light rain cleared long enough for the mild conditions to dry the track and we were left with a heavily overcast sky and a light Southerly breeze. The track was looking her best with Albert James of the Manawatu District council arranging for the lines to be repainted and club supporters Ian Gray, Greg Bryan and Darren Humphreys investing 8 man hours on Sunday cutting back the grass edges to expose the full track for the safety of the riders. The feature of the night was to be the Club Championships for the 500 metre standing start time trial, the cool track and moist air were not ideal but the absence of a strong wind was welcomed. The stellar performance of the night was the unofficial equalling of a New Zealand record to Megan Blatchford in the Womans Masters 3 category. Megans time of 40.32 seconds was 2 seconds faster than the old track record. It is heartening to think that a humble outdoor, asphalt provincial track like Feilding when mixed with a world class athlete like Megan can produce an international quality result.

MMCC Christmas & Final Cafe Ride 12 Dec 2010

MMCC

This Sunday, 12 Dec ’10, the Masters Sunday Ride will have special significance as it will be the last Sunday Ride organised by the Manawatu Masters Cycling Club.   This marks 15 years plus of Sunday Rides.

So to celebrate this and the amalgamation of 3 x Manawatu cycling clubs from 1 Jan ’11, the MMCC committee has decided:

  • After our ride to gather, bikes and all, and from club funds shout morning tea at Wharerata, Massey University.
  • Invite to the morning tea and welcome some of the past members who still hold MMCC close to their hearts and did good work for the club.
  • Celebrate Christmas ’10.
  • Issue all MMCC members gathered at Wharerata with a free raffle ticket and draw some prizes which hopefully will be of use for future cycling.

Lastly we encourage your to join up with Cycling Manawatu for the greater good of cycling in our region and wish the amalgamated club all the best for the future.

The MMCC Committee look forward to your attendance at Wharerata this Sunday.
