WCNI Team Time Trial Results

Three teams from Manawatu headed over to Wanganui to compete in the WCNI TTT competition on Saturday 23rd February.

This event has not been held for the past couple of years so it was good to see that Wanganui was able to host the event for 2013.

The team for the under 17 boys consisted of Jacob Sievwright, Hayden Washington-Smith, Robert Stannard and Alex West with Cameron Huston also available to ride as a replacement for Alex if needed.

As there was no other competition it was relatively easy for them to pick up the gold medal.

In the womens event 3 teams were registered, 2 from Wanganui and the Bike Manawatu ladies. With Cassie Cameron, Victoria Cate, Cherie Prince and Laurika Hazelhurst in the Wanganui A team they were able to win over the team of katherine Stannard, Jocelyn Goodwin, Sue McMaster and Kim Andersen representing Bike Manawatu.

The mens event was contested over the longer 40km distance. With 4 Wanganui teams, 1 from Stratford and 1 from Bike Manawatu this was to be the most contested prize. Our team of Steve Stannard, Luuk van Wagtendonk, George Roberts and Barry Gilliland did well to finish in second place.

Overall 2 silver and 1 gold was a good achievement but not good enough to take out the overall points trophy – more teams were required.

Congratulations to all Bike Manawatu members who participated.

Eleven days into this epic ride with 13 laps completed in some very hot weather, 2000+ km done, a *mere* 8000 + km to go!

Certainly my daily organisation has to improve, with 3 bikes all ready to ride as required, heading down Waihi hill on lap 1 my last remaining Camelbak podium Big Chill bottle complete with my hammer Heed supply bounced out, meaning I had to stop @  Z service Stn Turangi – oops only to find my cash was on another bike still @ Taupo.  No worries, a wee plea to Flo at the front counter & out popped 20 bucks, I borrowed 10, No security just plain trust, Purchased a bottle of water & out of there, only having to stop again @ waiatahuna dairy & spend the last $4.50 on a bottle of powerade.

Research project on Road Cycling in New Zealand

My name is Jonas Froetschl and I am in my last year of school here in
Wellington.
As a year-long assignment I am researching road cycling in New Zealand
with the aim to promote New Zealand as a cycle holiday destination to an
international audience.
I have designed a few questions to find out how you, the cyclist, feels
on New Zealand roads. Answering these questions will help me progress my
research and hopefully lead to me making a valuable contribution to
cycling and tourism in New Zealand.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated (will only take
2 minutes),
Please find the link to my survey below:

P.S. If you have any further information that could support my project
please email me at Jonasfroetschl@gmail.com  I would be more than happy
to hear from you.

Update from Bike NZ

Club Administrators Portal Update

Our providers have run several fixes on known bugs this week that have been affecting club membership reports. These fixes have no implication on financial settlement for which data is received from DPS. We have asked that our providers supply us with up-to-date reports for each club giving accurate membership for the period of Nov 15 – Feb 14. These reports are expected on Friday 15thFebruary, and will be distributed as soon as they are received. Our apologies to all club administrators who have been unduly stressed as a result of the reporting issues.

The portal is currently live in beta and we have been getting valuable feedback from a group of administrators currently accessing it including Bike Manawatu.

Insurance update

A reminder that all 2012 affiliated clubs continue to be affiliated at tier two level until 31 March 2013, by which point affiliation documents will be distributed by BikeNZ for consideration by your club.

A copy of the current BikeNZ Liability insurance package has been attached. Specific details of coverage can be found page 7 of the “BikeNZ Liability Insurance Package” document.

Membership cards

Members who joined in, or  prior to, January, should have now have membership cards. We are aware of some members receiving multiple cards and we are looking into this.

To send the membership cards we require a valid postal address. Please ensure that you and your club members have a valid address in both the “address” and “delivery address” sections on their online profiles.

Club Road National Championships

The course, programme and pricing are pending final approval, which is expected this week. The course will take in some magnificent vistas for riders through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

The proposed programme is available to view on the event page here: http://www.bikenz.org.nz/Event?Action=View&Event_id=92

Lakes Leisure are providing great in-kind and infrastructure support. They will hold naming rights for the u15 – 17 junior grades.

We thank you again for your patience during all the technical difficulties – we’re nearly there!
