The Wednesday Night Time-Trial Series concluded this week with the final time-trial and a prize-giving at Kairanga Hall.
Alex Denholm topped the Points Table with a score of 15 out of a maximum 16. A great effort from Alex to consistently improve each week, especially given the varying wind conditions throughout the series.

I went up to Taupo to support BeanCycling mate Soren Hall in his IronMan event. Missed last year’s event and was looking forward to seeing what an IronMan event is really like!
We planned to get there in time to see the Transition from the swim to the bike, but a truck crash in the Desert Road had us detoured round the Ohakune side and when we got to Taupo Soren was already on the bike.

A few members of the local cycling community participated in IM NZ 2011 on 5th March . After a great week leading up to the event the morning started with steady rain and ideal swim conditions.
The people who suffered most were the spectators despite being clad for the rain. At least the athletes were meant to get that wet. The water was calm and warm so great start.

Sunday 13 March saw six riders from the Manawatu head down to Masterton for the 40km national time trial championship. The event is raced in the same five year age grades used at national events.
It is an out and back course running 20km south from Masterton to a few kilometers past Gladstone and back. It is slightly downhill out and slightly uphill on the return journey. The best wind direction is a tail wind coming back up the false flat. On Sunday the riders were faced with a head wind, so it was a matter of getting to the turn as quickly as possible and trying to limit time losses coming back.
