Huge kudos to everyone who tackled the crosswinds this morning at Kairanga. Highlight of the day was seeing so many young riders out on course, they actually outnumbered the senior riders in those challenging conditions. Absolutely fantastic to see!
We’re also fortunate to work closely with the Manawatu Triathlon Club, who turned out in great numbers today, with several members even heading out for a run after their ride. A big thank you to Richard Long and the MTC for supporting our event.
A massive thank you as well to our incredible volunteers who generously gave their time to help make the event run smoothly and safely: Axel Malecki (marshal at the bridge), Marty Baker (marshal at the turn), Tim Lloyd (traffic management), Sam Richardson (registration & timing), Andy Richardson, Kirsty Armstrong, Esther Hutchinson and Sarah Steer (helping around the finish area).
First across the line in the 24km event was Andrew Ward (MTC), while Filip Martin took out the 12km event and Aylish Underwood was the first female rider home.

It was a beautiful summer evening yesterday for the 17 riders and our amazing volunteers at Kairanga.

Firstly, a huge THANK YOU to our volunteers Sam and Laura Richardson for running the timing, Tim Lloyd for traffic management, and Alastair Cadzow, David Peel and Rachel O’Dea!
Congratulations to Liam O’Dea and Rory Hutchinson on breaking the following course records:

Liam took almost 20sec off the previous record for 14 year old boys set by Robert Stannard in 2012. Liam’s time was a blistering 17:37.6!

Rory is now the course record holder for 10 year old boys with a fantastic time of just 24:42!
It was great to see riders of all ages turn up last night. Special mention also to George Skinner who was fastest overall, Aylish Underwood who was flying on the 24km course, and new rider Jakob Abernethy who did amazing on the long course as well.
Another opportunity to race on the 12km Kairanga TT course will come up on 10th March! Mark your calendars

We commend the nine hardy riders who braved the wind and the rain at last night’s time trial at Kairanga!!! Highlights include Annemarie, Aylish and Andy pushing through 2 laps in tough conditions, and the fact that the majority of the field were female riders, with three of them from the Peel family.
A huge Thank You goes out to our volunteers on the night: Jonny and David Peel, Ross O’Dea, Sam and Laura Richardson for running the timing, and Tim Lloyd for setting everything up.

Solid turn out to the Kairanga ITT on Mothers day. There was a 24 km option available which was contested by 4 riders with Jaro setting the bench mark of 36.29.
32 riders tackled the 12km out and back with Winston Briggs fastest on the day with a 16.49. The easterly breeze catching a few riders out on the way home.
Great to see so many families turning up and competing or volunteering, cementing the fact that cycling is a sport for all ages.
Fantastic news came from Manawatu District Council with our successful application for funding to support our Traffic Management application costs.
Every plan we submit has a price tag for processing and now , with the successful funding application done by Janina, we can now return to the $10 entry fee for all adults.
Every club is always finding ways to navigate the financial obstacles and Bums on seats as well as higher memberships are critical.
Taonui Loops on Sunday, weather is looking ok at this stage. Enter if you are available and if the race is cancelled due to weather the fee is carried over, unfortunately the TMP application is still absorbed.
Manfeild 6 hour the week after. This time next week we will be praying for fine weather
Tim
