Recreational Riders – Safety

Recreational Riders – Safety

While it’s okay to challenge yourself, our recreational rides are social and are designed to keep our bunches together and not dropping riders, all while doing so safely and having fun before a nice social stop at the local coffee shop.
The key is communication.
💡 Be seen – use front and rear lights at night, in low light and in poor visibility such as fog or rain.
👀 Be aware – watch and listen for approaching vehicles, pedestrians, potholes, animals, car doors opening and other potential hazards.
🚴‍♀️ Be predictable with all actions – Avoid sudden braking and changes of direction. Try to maintain a steady straight line. Keep to the left and signal your intentions clearly and early. Remember that there are riders following closely behind
🚲 Be safe – ride to the conditions and follow the road rules. Cycle no more than two abreast and ride single file where visibility is an issue or traffic is busy. Keep at least one metre away from parked cars and use cycle lanes where they exist.
🙂 Be patient – slow down near parked or queuing vehicles. Pass slowly and only when safe. On narrow windy roads, pull over where practical to allow vehicles to pass.
🚴 Be prepared – wear an approved helmet and check your bike regularly.
Respect the road rules – Neutralise the bunches when you approach the 50km sign into town.
Be an awesome cyclist – Be Safe – Have Fun. 🚴

2022 Trusthouse Teams Series

After another hugely successful time for local riders in the 2021 series, we at Bike Manawatu are in the process of putting together our teams for this years Trusthouse Teams Series.

This series has 4 categories/grades and is run over 5 races from September to December in the Wairarapa – it is a lot of fun, and with the lack of major events, this series helps us all get some good quality racing.

If you are interested in taking part, or would like to have a chat about what is involved with the series and grades, please contact me at michellet@pb.co.nz before 24 June.

I would like to have our teams finalised prior the Kapiti Winter Series, as it would be great to have a solid contingent from Bike Manawatu, to not only show support for a neighbouring clubs events, but to also use this series to ride together as a team, and know our teams strengths before the trusthouse series
