WHK 2012 Oceania Track Championships, 21-24th November, Invercargill

This year’s event promises to be hugely exciting with Oceania hosting both the Elite and Junior World Championships next year (Melbourne and Invercargill) and the small matter of London 2012. Please find attached our first event newsletter along with a copy of the event programme and details of exclusive accommodation offers available for those travelling to Invercargill for the event. Once selections have been finalised, please enter your riders online at http://www.cyclingsouth.org.nz/oceaniaentryform. Also, be advised the event has been registered as an UCI P1 Para event with international interest from a number of countries.

Other key events happening in the deep south: While we are at it, just a quick reminder regarding our upcoming Track Event in October from 18th to 20th. This follows the annual Yunca Junior Tour (www.cyclingsouth.org.nz/yuncatour) which is shaping up to feature another record field.’

Mark Waterland–Board member profile

I’ve been riding bikes since high school, mountain biking in Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington but only started road riding shortly after I started at Massey in 2003. My training in those days consisted of taking my youngest daughter, Grace, on the back of the commuter bike up to Massey everyday (these days the daily commute is a gentle spin on the single-speed up to Massey). Pat Edwards encouraged me to try road racing shortly after my first Round the Lake ride (in 2005) to improve my time, and I joined the club committee the following year. I ride competitively to push myself and I really enjoy the social aspects of cycling and have made some good friends through cycling in the Manawatu. We have the people, the roads and the resources to make BikeManawatu the best cycling club in New Zealand and I bring to the Board enthusiasm, and by taking a lead in the Events Working Group, a willingness to get the job done.
