We had a winner of the BikeBarn Lucky Draw on Sunday, Colin Anderson was present but not wearing Bike Manawatu kit.  Colin is the winner of Bike Barn’s $310 voucher.

We had a great turnout with over 50 cyclists present on a chilly Sunday morning!

No mention if Colin paid for all the after ride coffees?

Elite Nationals 2019

Elite Nationals 2019

I believe that children are our future … was sung by the late great Whiney Houston.  And ok, she may not have been talking about cycling, and perhaps to call Under 23 riders children might also be a bit of a stretch – but boy did the younger riders of New Zealand put on a great show at the Elite Road Nationals in Napier over the weekend of 4-6 January.

Bike Manawatu was well represented in the Under 23 age group by the following riders: Joel Yates, Carne Groube, Madi Hartley-Brown, Alex West, Thomas Stannard, Michaela Drummond, Connie O’Brien, Libby Arbuckle and Emily Shearman.  We also had one Elite rider Winston Briggs.

The Bike Manawatu Board would like to congratulate all of our riders for their efforts and results, however, we feel that the following results deserve a special mention:

Joel Yates was 3rd in the Men’s U23 Road Race, after a solid 5th place in the Men’s U23 TT 2 days prior

joel RR

Joel Podium

Michaela Drummond was 3rd in the U23 Women’s Road Race

Manawatu Secondary Sports Awards

Manawatu Secondary Sports Awards

On Wednesday night I attended the Manawatu Secondary Sports Awards as 3 of our talented younger members had been recognised for their sporting achievements and were nominated for the awards – Connie O’Brien for Girls Road Cycling, Madi Hartley-Brown for Boys Road Cycling and Angus Claasen for Boys Track Cycling.

Awards

All 3 were outstanding representatives for both our club and for cycling and were deserving of the recognition. Congratulations from the Bike Manawatu Board.

Novice Tour 2018

Good luck to all our Junior riders who are competing in the 45th Novice Tour this week end.

This is a premier 3 stage tour run over 2 days around the Ashhurst area with some of the best junior talent in the country in attendance.

It’s a big undertaking and requires a lot of man power to make it happen on the day. Thank you to all the members who have volunteered in many ways over the week end.

If you are out riding in the area pull over and give the riders some support.

A1 Loops 22 September

Remember our next club road race is back at A1 Loops and that there is a volunteer roster that needs filling in order to run these races. Thanks to the few who have already put their name down. We need plenty more so that the same few people don’t have to run these races week after week.

Juniors are equally asked to put your name down. U17’s and above can be unaccompanied. Vehicle duties require a full licence. Anyone younger than U17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Here is the roster. Simply let Keryn know which duty and which event you would like to volunteer for.

Every time you volunteer you go into the draw to win 1 of 2 $100 Nero Restaurant

Cheers

Mike
