Below are snippets from the Bike NZ website about the results that have been achieved over the first 3 days at the Oceania Track Champs in Invercargill.
World silver medallist Jesse Sergent produced a superb sub 4:20 performance to be fastest in qualifying in the men’s 4000m individual pursuit.
The Radioshack Nissan Trek rider and Bike Manawatu member clocked 4:18.634 to be less than two seconds outside his national record, and will meet compatriot Peter Latham in the gold medal ride tonight. Latham recorded a personal best 4:19.410 to win through to the final while teammate Sam Bewley (4:21.644) meets Australia’s Edward Bissaker (4:27.204) for the bronze medal.

A good sized crowd turned up to hear Associate Professor and Bike Manawatu board member Steve Stannard address on nutrition for cycling.
Steve, who works at Massey University, pitched what can be a very complex subject in very simple terms for all ages to understand. In doing so he dispelled a number of myths regarding cycling nutrition that was very useful.

We are doing a study on caffeine metabolism and how the possession of a particular gene variant may affect it’s metabolism and also exercise performance. We’d like to recruit healthy male cyclists Below is the basic details of what is required for the study.
We are looking for healthy, endurance-trained male cyclists between the ages of 18 and 40 , who exercise at least 3 days per week.
Participants will be required to come in on four separate occasions as follows:
Session 1: 1.5 hours for maximal aerobic testing and blood sample collection
Session 2: 1 hour initially for blood sample collections, supplementation and breakfast then a blood sample collection 2.5 hours later
Session 3-4: base-line blood sample collection, supplementation and breakfast then 1 hour rest followed by 2.5 hours of exercise.
All participants who successfully complete this study will be given $80 in vouchers to reimburse them for travel and time.

Sunday the 6th November. What a day. What a ride. 80 kms and 3 boys hoping to come in first.
The day started off as a typical Palmy day- wet, cold, windy, so I knew it was going to be tough. Lining up at the start line I looked around and recognised a few familiar faces, and was thankful I wasn’t the only one who felt the way I did.

It was pleasing to see such a large number of Bike Manawatu members participating and acheiving great results in the Tour de Manawatu.
In the 116 km race in the first 25 people across the line 10 were members of Bike Manawatu
