The week saw two track nights with the Tuesday night including the Club Championships Scratch races and the Thursday night devoted to the Club Championships 500 metre standing start time trials. Tuesday was warm with a heavy threatening sky and a light North Westerly breeze. We had 18 riders across the grades, which is down on normal but the rain earlier in the day and the high risk of rain would have put a number of riders off from making the trip.

As previously advised we were going to look at a different time of day to see if that suited people better. And if we were going to have a morning race why not finish with lunch. What a good idea.
So the plan was hatched, the organising of the course was done, the helpers were sought, the lunch organised, the registrations by email were opened.
And the entries didn’t come in. So despite the poor turn out those that did arrive on time did have a good race.
Originally the riders going to do 57km were going to leave 10minutes ahead of those doing 37km, but as Mark was still doing his warmup all riders left together as one bunch.

It was great to have some new people helping out again this week. So first up thanks to Barrie Eccles and Dave Bleakley who took the signs out and marshalled at the turn point.
Thanks also to the helpers on the start and finish line. With out your help and support the event would not be possible.
Riders please remember to thank those valuable people who assist with the running of the event.
Postponement of next weeks time trial 22nd February due to NZCT Womens Tour stage 1 Time trial at Massey on the same night. An extra week will be added to the end of series.

A special thanks to this weeks helpers, Cameron Gibbons who mastered the art of starter and timing ably assisted by Kirsty Kaihau and Katherine Stannard. Katherine was also the turn marshall on the 16km turn. The course required a number of marshals not only at the end turns but also at the 2 tricky intersections Kaimatarau Rd and Glen Oroua. These roles were completed by Grant Shearman, Brad Johnson, Tom Pirie and Steve Glasgow. Only a couple of riders got a bit side tracked when they turned the wrong way at Glen Oroua and headed down Milner Rd on the return journey rather than returning the way they headed out.

A week for record books too, – record number of riders on a single night (57), new course record for women, Rachel Southee, 18mins 34seconds, Matiu Kaihau missed his own course record by just one second. And interestingly, 4 riders equalled their personal bests for the series.

Here are the results that Andrew has provided from his timing system. For those people that have 2 results those are the 2 different timing chips that he was trialling. I am not sure which one is which but interesting to compare these times to the times that we had recorded manually. I received an email from Andrew explaining –
We had originally intended that all riders be given two chips (1 seat post and 1 fork) for comparison purposes. With thetime constraints and number of riders we did not do this but I had set up the software so everyone had two numbers. This left a large number of DNS (duplicate) entrants which I cut from the spreadsheet to avoid some of the confusion. Having looked at the site yesteday I saw that when I did this I inadvertently also cut Hayley Giddens results from the list. Please accept my apolosies (and extend them to Hayley). I attach the list with Hayley back.
You also raise the issue of which of the multiple results is which. The seatpost tags are in a sequence 30 – 60, and the fork mounted tags are in a sequence 80 – 100. The results are a warts and all report so whilst they show the fork having the better of the seat by a fraction of a second, in our published results these traditionally are rounded so they both would have the same time.
