North Island Secondary Schools Cycling Champs update

PNBHSDay 2  – The day dawned clear and crisp without the heavy frost of the day before. All the Manawatu school riders were having to front up from the rigors of the Team Time Trial from Day 1 in search of their own individual glory over a flat and fast road race course. This was the major moving day for Palmerston North Boys High Schools riders to stamp their authority in their own age groups and get a permanent hold of that prestigious NISSCC Top Schools trophy.

The Manawatu U13 riders to race were Palmerston North Intermediate Normal cyclists Flynn Yates who placed 3rd, Adam Martin 4th, Daniel Kendall came 10th and Harrison Kinghorn rounded the top 20 coming in at 17th. In the girls race Anna Robson was our only U13 rider and she had an admirable performance coming in at 12th.

PEDAL POWER ON MANFEILD!!!

7th July and 4th August!

Workplaces have the chance to win a morning tea for their office, the competition is to see who can get the most people from their workplace along to Pedal Power on Manfeild and win a morning tea for your workplace!

Dads (and Mums) can show off their car tyre changing skills and be in with a chance to win a family pass to the V8 races on Fathers’ Day, and kids can test their talents on the skills course.

There’ll also be a Pedal Power stationary bike competition to test out your power on – see how powerful your legs are compared with a V8 engine.

Sport Manawatu’s Serena Rata says “It’s going to be a fantastic day – you might think that race cars and bikes don’t mix, but we’re proving that they can.

The event series is heavily supported by Motorsport Manawatu, and they’ll be there on the day with some display cars and helping with some of the activities.”

“The event is a great chance to cycle on the race track, check out the cars that will be racing the next day, and have a fun day out for all the family regardless of age” says Mrs Rata.

The event kicks off at 8:30am at Manfeild Park in Feilding.

Entry is only $5 and family entry options are available also.

Food will be available for purchase onsite. Entrance via Rata St.

Quiz night huge success

With team names ranging from “Raining Champs” to “Mo Bros” and everything in between it was set to be a fun night. The first round was a round of questions based on photos from around NZ and the rest of the world including famous land marks and cycling events staged in the Manawatu. One question in this round asked to name some local cyclists. The correct answer was Jacob Humphries, Josh Chard and Jesse Sergent all riding on the track at Feilding. However one team thought that the third rider was “A Masters DUDE”.

At the end of the second  round there were only 4 points between the first team and the next 12 teams. The third round which were questions by Steve Stannrd was the round that saw the split in team scores develop and from this point on no team could pull back the advantage gained by “The Flyers”. Round 3 questions were all based on things “French” and it helped the flyers that one of their team members had lived in France for a number of years.
