Pre-race the Club Road National’s Courses

On 10  & 11 March 2012, Rambler’s have scheduled two ‘build up’ events on a single weekend so that riders can gain experience the Club Road National courses:
Road Race on Saturday 10 March 2012.  Road Races (RR) near Crownthorpe, east of Hastings. The course for the RR will be the same to those used in 2010 when Ramblers CC hosted the Club National Championships. ·

Individual Time Trial on Sunday 11 March 2012. The Individual Time Trial (ITT) based in Waipawa, Central Hawkes Bay. This incorporates a challenging ITT course that will be new to National competitors but has been run many times by Cycling CHB, who will take responsibility for running the ITT.

These events will be open to all BikeNZ licensed riders and will require pre entry.  Entry details on the Ramblers website  BikeNZ Club Road’s National Newsletter

Click here for course map and elevation for ITT course.

Visitors must pre-enter both events.
Please email your age group, name, club affiliation and event (RR and/or ITT) to Ken at cycle@ruralkiwi.com

The visitors fee is $10 per Saturday race.

Wednesday Night time trials week 5 results

There has been some clarification over a number of unusual results that have been posted over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately the record that we thought that had been set by Michaela wasn’t to be as it was actually a DNF as she had a mechanical fault and turned early. So the womens course record now rightfully belongs to Megan Blatchford at 18mins 29sec which Megan matched again this week.

Reminder about upcoming club champs

It is fast approaching – that time of year when we are holding club champs for all age groups. We will be holding the individual time trial champs at Rongotea on Saturday 3rd March.

There are different course lengths depending on age group. Each rider will be set off at 30 second intervals, but where it differs to Wednesday night time trials is that we have age groups riding one after the other so you cannot just arrive on the scene and go when it is your turn. A start list will be prepared the night before so it is imperative that you preregister.

Last year we had 64 riders registered.

Under 13 girls /boys  Distance 8kms

Under 15 & under 17 girls /boys Distance 16kms

Under 19 women /men Distance 25kms

Senior/under 23 men /women Distance 40kms

Masters women/men Distance 25kms

You can register either by phoning me at at Sport Manawatu  357 5349 and leaving a message if I am not in the office.

Or send an email to me at secretary@bikemanawatu.co.nz

You must be a financial member to be eligible for the cups and medals.

These will be awarded at the AGM and prizegiving that will be held on Thursday 26th April

Also on 31st March is club road champs.

The Wellington to Auckland Cycle Challenge

The Wellington to Auckland Cycle Challenge

The Wellington to Auckland Cycle ChallengeSaturday 11th February saw my wife and I head to Wellington to get ready for the start of the 7 day event, for which training has taken up much of my spare time over the past two months. The journey to Wellington was uneventful, though I must admit to being somewhat nervous. Once we arrived at our accommodation and met some of the other participants, the nerves settled somewhat. Registration took place at a BMW franchise at Kaiwharawhara, and there with all entrants the excitement was clearly building. This was followed by a meal at Lower Hutt, an early night for an early start next morning. Colin Anderson (Wal), Averil Sheehan and Steve Stannard were the other Palmerston North participants in the event. Hamish MacKay from Radio Sport and TV3 entered again, and the event included All Black legend Ian Kirkpatrick!
