What an amazing West Cost North Islands Team this year! With so much Talent throughout all the grades. Firstly I would like to thank Central Bike Studios for sponsoring T-shirts & R-line and bottles for all the riders. We really appreciate your help over the past 2 years.
With all the amazing results it would take forever to go through every race. So, I would like to acknowledge my pursuit team consisting of Emily Shearman, Libby Arbuckle and Simone Davies. Emily showing strong form dominating the first year U17’s with extraordinary rides, to only just not making it on the podium. Not far behind Emily was the polite Libby Arbuckle who shows great form and impressive positioning in every race. No doubt these girls next year will be leading their age group. Simone Davies shows her determine self by leading out the U17 girls on the final lap of the point’s race. Simone had been sick but you wouldn’t have known with her power to stay at the front of the bunch.
The final Wednesday night time trials have been held with the approach of autumn and the end of daylight savings.
The yard at Horizons was again a great place to meet, register and congregate at the end to compare notes on how the ride went for the night. And last night was no exception with drinks and nibbles on offer whilst the final riders returned.
There was a special spot prize draw for all riders as an enticement for all riders to stay for the prizegiving. Over the series numerous helpers have been involved in running this event and without their help this event would not be able to be run. So once again on behalf of all the riders a BIG THANKS to all that have helped out in any way.
Over this series we have had 75 riders compete, with a total of 194 results recorded. The time trials return once daylight saving returns at the end of the year.
Some outstanding times were achieved this year and with the club time trial champs only 2 weeks away it is hoped that the improvement that the riders have made will be apparent at the champs.
Prizemoney was awarded to people who had gained 7 points or more so the point of consistency in always turning up no matter what the weather conditions certainly paid off for a few riders.
World Champs 2014, Colombia
Coke Country
Colombia is the world’s largest producer of cocaine, controlling 80% to 90% of the global market.
The boom years began in the early 1980s. The Medellín Cartel, led by Mr Pablo Escobar, became the principal mafia, and its bosses lived in freedom and luxury. They even founded their own political party, held congressional seats, established two newspapers and financed massive public works and public housing projects. By 1983 Escobar’s personal wealth was estimated to be US$2 billion, making him one of the richest criminals in the world.
The Raetihi Gutbuster (April 20 – Easter Sunday) is a fun way to experience the scenery and history of the Raetihi – Pipiriki road that lies between the Tongariro and Whanganui National Parks. Starting outside the Waimarino Museum in Raetihi, it’s an out and back course with options to suit most. The 18k has been completed by a six year old, even though it has a sharp 2km climb before the turnaround. The 50km is always hotly contested by local riders and out of towners, even though it’s a ‘fun ride’. The road is sealed all the way. Pipiriki is 89 metres above sea level, Raetihi is 575m, so the second half is mostly uphill and gives the Gutbuster it’s name.
There is also a 25km ‘downhill’ ride which means people can enjoy the road but get a bus back to Raetihi without having to ride the 25km uphill section. This option is limited to 20 riders.
Great Spot Prizes include Mt Ruapehu Season Passes, and Jet boat trips to the Bridge to Nowhere. The start and finish area at the Museum has a market day atmosphere with cake stalls, bbqs and coffee vendors.
