Rabobank Club Road National Championships Time trials.

At 8am this morning there was not a breath of wind in Wanganui. The river although it still did not look the most inviting it did not have a ripple on it.

However by about 9am when the first riders were heading off up the time trial course the wind had started to pick up and it fluctuated throughout the day. At one point about midday we could look back at Wanganui and see the rain coming. It did but it was only light misty rain that didn’t stay around for long. Although I do not have all the results to hand the results so far were pleasing.

Notable preformances today were from
Michaela Drummond who was placed 4th in under 15 girls

Rachel Southee who was placed 5th in under 19 women

Jocelyn Goodwin who was placed 3rd in Masters 3 women

Sue McMaster who also placed 3rd in Masters 4 women

Steve Stannard who also placed 3rd in Masters 2 Men

Full results for today will be on the website tomorrow.

AGM wrap up

Last Thursday , at the Marist Clubrooms Bike Manawatu held it’s first AGM. There was a very good turnout and the feeling from those present was one of positivity and good progress being  made on several fronts. Importantly , two new Board members were elected form the three nominations made. Oiroa Kaihau and Andrew Ward are now elected Board members and we look forward to their contribution going forward. Mike Christie missed selection by a narrow margin. Mike has already thrown himself into one of our ‘ working groups’. Thanks for that Mike.

Good luck for all of our members riding the club nationals  today, tomorrow and the weekend. We have a record level of entries across all categories. Thanks also to those who have put up their hand to act as ‘ manager” on the various days of competition.

Velodrome – It’s not over yet!

Two days out from the deadline for a decision on a multimillion-dollar indoor velodrome near Cambridge, supporters’ plans for the development are in limbo.

In a closed meeting this week, the region’s 10 mayors and council chief executives refused to skip due processes by putting the $29.5 million Home of Cycling straight into their long-term plans.

The refusal means any council decision on funding the new velodrome could be at least five months away.

Meanwhile the other two region’s shortlisted to house the velodrome are planning moves to snatch back the high performance centre.

Both Palmerston North and Auckland councils have confirmed funding for the velodrome.
