Manfeild 6 Hour.

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Manfeild 6 Hour.

With the 2020 event being cancelled due to covid, It was incredibly exciting to welcome back the 6 hour back into its’ traditional time slot.
The event holds high status in our calendar because it reaches out to all ages and agendas, more than most events.
From the first timers to the veterans. No matter what your age, ability or experience the 6 hour caters for it.
Congrats to David and Adam Martin for taking out the teams section again for the 3rd year in a row.
All results can be found “here”.

Not in the results is the effort put in by Darren Murdie, who started his ride for the weekend at 3.00pm Saturday.
Setting a target of 500kms in a day he casually turned up to the start of the six hour and continued on with his day, finally eclipsing 507km by early afternoon.
This was part of a Westpac Helicopter fundraiser challenge…but most others spread the 500 kms over a week. Kudos to Darren..Massive effort

With Manawatu Schools racing started for the term, BM riders have the opportunity to enter selected events.
There are ITT’s, TTT’s and Road races in the calendar with a list of events being finalised in the next 7 days.
With winter coming, please be lit up and ride safe
