Breaking Track Records

With 54 riders signed to track, we have aleady broken a record for the club. But there are many more records to break. Feilding track records are the fastest and/or established time, in a timed event in your age group. The list of up to date records can be found under ‘Event Results & records’ on the BikeManawatu website.

Conditions to break a record…

-Must be at Johnston Park, Feilding.

-Rider must be in correct age category, as at 31st December.

Three watches must successfully record the ride, with the middle watch being the official time.

-Gearing restrictions apply to U15 (6.00m) and U17 (7.00m).

When to break a record…

Most records are broken at the club track Championships (500m Time Trial, 200m flying, Individual Pursuit) during racing at the start of 2016. They can also be broken at track meets on Sunday afternoon when timed events are in the programme, these are often 1 lap time trials and flying laps. In this situation please notify the race manager if you want three watches on the time incase you are close to the record. Sometimes if the conditions are good Ian offers people to express interest in breaking a record and a few people test themselves against the clock. If you have your sights set on one that is not a championship event the best thing is to express your interest to Ian at track.

The next step is West Coast North Island records (often broken at WCNI Championships in Wanganui), then National and World Championship records.

We hope this helps! If you have any questions email Kate (k8.stewart@hotmail.com) or talk to Ian at track.

Track Chit Chat – October

The new track season received one of the most prestigious openings ever, when the riders, parents and supporters applauded, in recognizing the great achievement, when Michaela Drummond and Campbell Stewart rode a lap of honour in their World Championship Rainbow jerseys!

It was great to see the greatest number of track riders present in recent years (43 riders), with the biggest gains in the U15 and U17 grades.

Meg Thomas as new U15 rider from Kiwitea was selected as the McDonalds rider of the day by John Arbuckle, by winning the final U15 race (8 lap handicap). Even though she received a liberal handicap Meg stuck gamely to her task to stay clear throughout the race from the chasing riders behind her.

It was good to see a good number of masters riders turn up and Mike Craine impressed when he left the field to ride away and win the 7 lap points race.

Brent Zimmerman carried out safety checks on the U15 and U17 riders bikes; and found three loose stems and one loose seat which weren’t safe!

The 1st track cycling meet of the season was held on Sunday 25th October, and what a beautiful day it was! We had a great turn out of 43 riders, which is a record for us, with the size of the under 15 and 17 fields being very large and a strong masters group, which has really grown since last season.

It was a historic day at the track, as we had our two Junior World Track Champions Michaela Drummond and Campbell Stewart open the track in their Rainbow jerseys.
