It looks likely by the weather forecast for Sunday – racing may be called off.
Please watch the Bike Manawatu Track Nights Facebook group for information on Sunday if weather is doubtful.
Great to see a great number of riders last Sunday and there was great racing witnessed. Mike Simpson picked Michael Richmond as the McDonalds Feilding and Taihape rider of the day, for his great win from scratch in the final under 15 8 lap handicap. He got great help from his co-maker Kyle Hoskin who also gave his best performance to date to finish a well deserved third. For this great effort we will award Kyle a sports bag thanks to ASB (see Kate when she is next at track and she will get it for you Kyle).
It was good to see the uptake of the young riders getting straps fitted onto their pedals. Thanks to Liam Brown for fitting the straps – well done! There is another 8 sets of straps available for free fitting.
Please observe the warm up rules better! All slow warm ups above the blue line and fast warming up below the yellow line. It was getting slightly chaotic last week and this is when incidents can happen very quickly!
If racing is cancelled on Sunday we will run a shortened meeting on Tuesday 17th November at 6pm start- watch this space.
Also due to BikeManawatu social get together and prizegiving at 3pm Sunday 22nd November. Track racing will commence at 11:30am on that day.

BikeManawatu is hosting the first OPEN West Coast North Island track carnival, and are making sure it is one not to be missed!
With the opportunity to race against, watch and meet Michaela Drummond – current Junior World Team Pursuit world champion and world record holder, and Campbell Stewart – Current Junior World Omnium and Scratch race champion, on their home track, the one and only Johnston Park Feilding Velodrome.
To make this carnival even more worth your while, thanks to our sponsors we have a lot of prize money to give away across all grades and ages. Including at least $100.00 to the Feilding Wheel race winner.
This open carnival is offered to all centres with races for U15’s, U17’s, Women, Masters, A and B grades (dependant on numbers). Everyone must hold a Cycling NZ licence with the exception to U15 riders. We encouraage riders to ride in 2016 licence categories, to help WCNI selectors as they start to think about the 2016 track nationals.
All riders must report to registration at the track between 10:45 and 11:45am and pay $5.00 (cash only) each. BikeManawatu members will use their usual race number (please remember this), whilst others will be alloacted a number that must be returned at the end of the meet.
More information (including the programme) will be posted on the BikeMananwatu website under ‘track cycling’ and on the Bike Manawatu track nights Facebook page leading up to the event. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Kate Stewart, k8.stewart@hotmail.com or 0278139922.

Again it was great to see the number at the track last Sunday and some of the riders had even ridden Tour de Manawatu events in the morning.
Congrats to Liam Brown who rode the senior men’s 1 lap standing in 29.89 sec and broke Simon Van Velthooven’s 7.5 year old record time of 29.95 sec.
The one lap standing start will be held several times over the season and their will be a $50.00 prize to the rider who decreases their initial time by the greatest margin.
So that riders can’t ride an initial “stoomen”. Only riders who rode last Sunday will be eligible for the prize!
James Gardner always seems ride better when he has $ signs in his “eyes” and again just pipped Kyra Craine at the finish of the U15 8 lap handicap for a deserved win to bank $10 yet again. The handicapper wont be so kind to James next time when the money is up!
Brent Zimmerman again this week checked the U15 and U17’s bikes and there was a big improvement this week. Remember to routinely check your bike. Also remember to pump your tyres up to the correct pressure – it makes your bike so much easier to ride.
Safety- we would encourage all riders to get straps on their pedals. One rider pulled his foot out twice last Sunday, and the cause was that he had been fitted with the wrong new cleats.
We will offer free straps and fitting to the pedals for the 1st 12 U15 and U17 riders. Liam Brown has offered to help with the fitting and explaining the use of straps. Come early to track at 1:30pm and indicate on Facebook (by messaging Kate or commenting on the post regarding this chat) if you are interested – it is a very valuable safety exercise!
Congratulations to last weeks McDonald’s Feilding & Taihape rider of the week Angus Claasen.
Note for Intermediate riders, for your points from track to count this sunday and future track meets please tick beside your name on the board.
