With The NZ Cycle Classic starting in PN at 10AM, two of the the Sunday rides this week should enable interested cyclists to get up the Pahiatua Track before 10.15AM to watch the race go over the top.
We’ve changed the rides from those advertised so you can support the tour.
The long ride is now BM30 – Track Saddle, but in reverse, which should give about the right timing to see the tour come past.
The Short Ride is now BM27D

New Kiwi TV Series on TV One in February!
Starting in a few weeks, National Radio host and self-confessed bike addict Simon Morton, rolls out on a nationwide quest to find out why NZ would be up a creek without the bike. In a light-hearted and entertaining tour of the country, Simon starts in North Otago where he hunts down our very first photo of the ‘iron horse’, carried on by obsessive Kiwi characters, mad inventions, Kiwi world records, all the way upcountry to Auckland. During this primetime TV series Simon discovers how much we Kiwis owe to the humble bicycle.
With trademark good humour, and the curiosity of an amateur enthusiast, Simon’s seven week tour takes the audience on the handlebars, uncovering hidden histories and new inventions behind the classic machine, and how it represents the Kiwi spirit of freedom, humour and adventure. The real stars of the series are the NZ countryside and the people we take Along For The Ride. Watch out for it on TV One in February!

The following message is from Steve Chapman, race manager for the 2014 Rice Mountain Classic on Sunday 14 December.
The premier one day race in the Wellington region is nearly upon us.
The Rice Mountain Classic is a race that riders both anticipate and dread. Once again we’ve selected a course that justifies the ‘classic’ tag which will challenge riders at all levels. A and B grades will cover 110km (>2K vertical metres). Women, C and D grades will cover 65km (>1K vertical metres).

Steve Stannard is again organising a training camp at Ohakune in mid Dec.
Once again the camp will start in Palmerston North on the 17th, riding up to the mountain over two days.
The camp will finish on the 21st at Ohakune.
The cost will be $50 per day, which will cover basic meals and accommodation.
Riders will have to provide their own snack and training food, all cycling spares, and appropriate clothing.
The distances covered will range from 90 to 120 km per day, moderate pace on hilly to mountainous terrain, so a fairly solid level of fitness is required.
Please email Steve if you would like to come along at s.stannard@massey.ac.nz or give him a call in the evenings on 3555009.
