The RaboDirect RideStrong Ranking series finished this week.
Local riders featured prominently, and the major spot prize went to one of our club members!
The Waikato and Bay of Plenty has beaten out the rest of the country to be named as the preferred tenderer for a $29 million national cycling centre but it’s not clear yet whether the region’s councils will support the facility.
The announcement by Sport and Recreation NZ (SPARC) was made tonight after the Waikato/Bay of Plenty bid was selected over other short-listed bids from Palmerston North and Auckland.
Originally seven bids were received from throughout the country.

I’ve been looking forward to this ride for quite some time and desperately wanted to get fit enough to ride the course before Sat 16 April the day of the inaugural Manawatu Cycle Classic. I’ve only been back on the bike regularly for about a month so there was a small degree of apprehension as a couple of good mates and some locals headed out of the square and down Fitzherbert Av. The first climb of the day came quickly just as you are leaving town and after crossing the Manawatu River you head up Summerhill Drive. As I reflect it is not that dissimilar to Taupo but much shorter in duration.
The club AGM is to be held at the Marist Clubrooms on Pascal St at 7.30pm on Thursday 28th April.
We will be voting for the two vacant Board positions.
