2011 Tour de Manawatu- a Windy ride

That's me on the right!I awoke at 5.30am to the sound of rain bucketing down on to the roof. Sounds heavy I thought and snoozed for a while. But my body knew what was in store for it today, Sunday 6 November. So I got up, went upstairs and started checking the colour of the sky out windows at all compasses points: heavy cloud over the ranges to the East, dark rain-laden clouds to the south and west, a bit more light in the skies to the North. It didn’t look promising at all! What was the outside temperature I thought. I went back downstairs to check the weather station; only 9°C. Cold too. So I sorted my cycle gear and got ready, all the while hoping the rain would ease. By 7am it had stopped. But then another downpour occurred at 7.30am. Just a test of my resolve I thought. The 21st Annual Caltex Tour of the Bay

The 21st Annual Caltex Tour of the Bay

16th October: New Course from Sports Park, Hastings.

Whanganui Club Track Open Day

Whanganui Club Track Open Day at the Cooks Garden Velodrome is plotted for Sunday 13 Nov.  Gates open at 11am and entry is free.

Based upon the numbers turning up to Fielding this presents a fantastic opportunity to get a real taste of track racing and the view for spectators is outstanding.  If you want to know what it’s like to ride on a 200m wooden velodrome including negotiating the steep banking then this is the ideal time.

The club is planning to run a series of rides to cater for those who turn up.  This event is weather dependent and while the weather forecast (as at Thursday 10 Nov) is for showers you just never know.

The Whanganui Club web (http://cyclingwanganui.org.nz/ ) updates the weather situation so you can make an informed decision before making the journey.
