Akers Road – 31 August 2019–Race 2*

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Akers Road – 31 August 2019

Tim mentioned in his article the other week we’d like to give our Akers Road circuit another go after it was cancelled due to bad weather in July.
Unfortunately the weather hasnt been kind to us for our scheduled races over the past couple of months, most recently we saw us having to cancel our Linton Race (BM Race 3) due to terrible rain. Ultimately our riders safety is key and the decisions to cancel races is difficult but ensuring the health and well being of everyone is extremely important.
Palmfeild Motors had a special deal for our Linton Race where you can ride for free if its your first time racing, or if you haven’t raced in any of our club races in the last 12 months. (see article here) we are very grateful and excited to let you know this offer has been extended to our race BM Race 2* –Akers Road – Thanks Palmfeild Motors

Traffic Management has been approved and we are ready to go – Saturday 31st August 2019
BM Race 2* – Akers Road

Please help our volunteers out and pre register online here
Pre registering helps out our team behind the scenes and speeds up our registration process. If you pre register but are unable to make it on the day, thats totally fine. Its much quicker to remove a rider than it is adding the to our system – however as always we will always allow late entries on the day.

Fingers crossed the weather is kind.
We hope to see you all there.

If you are available to marshal or volunteer in any way shape or form, please do let us know – we’d very much appreciate it.
This goes for all of our up and coming races. Road racing can not go ahead without sufficient marshals and volunteers.
You may not be available for this race but maybe for the next one, please feel free to email Keryn on secretary@bikemanawatu.co.nz and we will pop your name on our roster.
Thank you very much.
