Trust House Team Series 2021–Race 2

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Race 2 of the Trusthouse Teams Series was another successful day for local riders.

Race 2 was a tough race with Cat 1 and 2 riding 113 kms with 1400 metres of climbing, and Cat 3 and 4 riding 66 kms with almost 1000 metres of climbing.

Young local rider Matthew Jamieson riding as an individual in Cat 1 finished in a solid 7th place only 30 seconds behind the winner .

Category 2 saw Manawatu riders take 9 of the top 15 spots – Caleb Botcher and Jack Padega riding for WCNI finished in 3rd and 4th, Sam Wade riding for Green Performance finished 6th with Luke Scott, Josh Mulcahy and Sam Parry riding for the Total Sheetmetals Bike Manawatu team finished 7,8 and 9th, and Glenn Kirk, Jeremy Rowe and Adam Francis also finishing in the top 15.  Caleb has retained the leaders jersey for Category 2 and WCNI are still leading the team points for this category with Bike Manawatu in 3rd place

In Cat 3, our young club members Andy Richardson (riding for bike Manawatu) and Jackson Fellowes(riding for Madison cycle clothing) featured strongly.  This is the first year competing in this series for these two young men, and they are definitely making their presence known in the Peloton – Andy finished in 2nd place and Jackson in third place – Jackson is now 2nd in the individual points, and Andy is 3rd, with Kevin Laskey’s Madison Clothing team 3rd in the team points

In category 4 Bike Manawatu have the leaders jersey!  Another strong performance from Darren murdie when he finished in 4th place saw him take the lead from Kapiti Rider Chris Sharrott – well done Darren.

However, the standout performance in this race came from Carl Dickason (Storage Manawatu) who won this race.  Just before the halfway point there was a lead group of 6 riders that had a reasonable lead on the bunch behind them – Carl was in the bunch following, and he decided to chase the lead group about 10kns from the finish.  He managed to catch the lead group and then have the legs to take first place – well done Carl, that was a great effort that paid off.

Toshi Yamauchi (Storage Manawatu) finished in 5th place and Patrick Johnstone (Bike Manawatu) in 7th place.  In the following  group Mike Thompson (Storage Manawatu) was 8th and Georgia Simpson (Bike Manawatu) was 9th equal and the first woman to finish.

Storage Manawatu are now 2nd in the team points and Bike Manawatu 3rd

A great day of racing, congratulations to all who participated
