Track carnival 4 December road bikes results

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

On 14 December 2011 a track carnival for road bikes was set after Schools Manawatu Prize giving as curtain raiser for the track carnival for track bikes.  A field of 14 riders took part in the 3 event carnival. First event was a 1 lap time trial. Two riders on the track starting at opposite sites from the track. Based on the overall results the heats for event 2 and 3 were grouped. Event 2 was a 3 lap scratch race for heat 1 and 2 and a 2 lap scratch race for heat 3. Event 3 a points race over 5 laps for heat 1 and 2 with points at laps 2, 4 and 5. For heat 3 it was a points race over 3 laps with sprints at lap 2 and 3. Point to be collected 5 for 1st, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd and 1 for 4th. Rider with the most collected point is the winner of the race.
