Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Bike Manawatu’s first and foremost priority is to promote cycling, rider safety and enjoyment for our members. We are a volunteer based organisation in one of the fastest growing sports on the planet. As kids we all learn how to ride a bike however nowadays more adults are returning to biking to immerse themselves into the sport primarily for health and wellbeing.

The power of any great club often comes down to the loyalty, unity and passion that all members have toward their club and fellow members. We would like to encourage leader riders and club members to continue to promote safe riding etiquette at all times. Many new and existing riders are unaware of what is required to ride safely in a group and the many hazards to be aware of. They would really appreciate your guidance to help them become a safer and better club rider.
Bike Manawatu has a proud history of producing New Zealand representatives and a high level of respect across New Zealand at schools, masters and elite cycling Manu of which we highlight in our weekly newsletter and Facebook. We value our close sporting association with Marist Sports Club and associated sporting codes with over 3000 registered members.
As a club, we will continually strive for unity within the club membership between all ages and are grateful to our devoted sponsors and supporters who help make over 300 events and social rides we run per year possible.

For all club members, young and mature Bike Manawatu have booked the comfort of the Hunterville room at Hotel Coachman for the purpose of club unity where we will be exclusively entertained to witness a re run of the final exciting two hours of the overnight hilly stages 14 and 15. These Professional Tour riders will definitely be in the hurt box.

Sunday 16th of July; Hilly Stage 15; Laissac- Severac-Le Puy-en Velay (189 Km)7am to 9am

After enjoying watching these gruelling “Tour de France” stages we will be ready to meet at Memorial park for a 10.30am start for a variety of group rides naturally with a coffee stop at the end to finish off a great morning together.

North Island Schools Road Championships

The Manawatu schools organising committee lead by Mike Craine is an amazing group of dedicated people who are well supported by schools, coaches, parents and sponsors. Week after week they are organising training riders and weekend races that prepare our riders for national events. This school holiday in July our club will be represented by up to 100 or more riders and there supporters who will travel to Cambridge to race against all of the leading North Island Schools for the North Island Schools Road Championships. We have a proud tradition of producing top riders and our new wave of keen young cyclist we know will represent themselves, their schools, supporters and club the best they can.
This is where our current stars like Campbell Stewart, Robert Stannard, Michaela Drummond and others where were all born in this competitive schools racing environment. We wish the success.
