Time trial series has ended

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

A fantastic time trial series has just ended but there is one final thing to be completed on Wednesday night at Kairanga community hall. And that is the prizegiving.

If the weather is kind a final time trial will be held but there will be no points awarded. The start of the time trials will be earlier than normal as daylight is diminishing by the time we get to the end and we do have prize giving to get through also. So please if you are coming out on your bike arrive earlier than normal – the first rider will be off at 6pm so race briefing will be done at 5.55pm Registration will close at 5.50pm. If you are not registered by this time you will not be allowed to ride.

The time trial series was run over 8 weeks and over that time there have been some outstanding performances with everyone trying to better their previous best time. For those people that attended on more than one occasion their points were accumulated and for Bike Manawatu members whose age details are known a new list of age group course records has been compiled and will be presented at the prize giving.

Results will be posted at the end of this article shortly
