Stannard Training Camp 2012

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Update: 6-Dec:   Reminder that anyone wishing to go to the training camp needs to contact Steve Stannard ASAP (contact details below).

Steve Stannard is organising a training camp for the week for before Christmas .

It’s really an opportunity to go riding on some different and challenging roads.

The camp will start on the 17th and go until the 22nd Dec.

The intention is to Wanganui via Hunterville on the first day and overnight there at the Top 10 Motorcamp or similar.  We will have a following car.

Then the group will ride up through the Paraparas to Ohakune and spend the rest of the time (Wed to Sat) training there.

Accommodation will be in a shared house and cost (yet to be confirmed), which include food and accommodation, should be less than $400.

There will be a limit on the numbers going (less than 20), just for logistics and safety, but if people want to go up on the Wed and do the camp from then on, that should be fine and will cost a little less.

Riders will have to be fit enough to comfortably ride 120km in a bunch, taking in a few decent sized hills.

Those going will have to take responsibility for making sure their bike is in good mechanical order, that they have spares and a pump, will take food and water on the rides, and know how to change a tyre!

Please contact Steve within the next week or so if you are keen on going.
