SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT WCNI OPEN TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS SATURDAY 21ST FEBRUARY 2015

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Following the extended closure for entries to the WCNI Open Track Championships originally scheduled for 2 days ( Saturday 21 and Sunday 22nd February 2015)

It has been decided to run the Championships over one day only, on Saturday 21st February.

This has been due to the low number if entries in some events and the increased costs to the WCNI in running over 2 days and also the increased travel and accommodation costs for some participants.

Please note carefully

  1. The programme order as sent out for 2 days will remain the same but will be run over a longer one day period in order to save time
  1. U15 Boys and Girls will be run together in the scratch races.
  2. In the sprint events the four fastest qualifiers will go straight through to the finals.
  3. The scratch races (the four final events) may not be run if time is not available at the end of the day.
  1. We ask all riders to be promptly available to take their start marks for events. Note there will be sufficient time breaks during the day including medal ceremonies.
  2. There will be gear checks for U15 and U17 riders prior to their first event (500m time trial)
  3. The start time will remain the same as advertised: 11.00am, and the first riders for the time trial must be available at the start point at 10.55am.
