Topics

Technology in Sport – How technology in sport can benefit players, coaches, officials, administrators and supporters. Mike Purchas, CEO of www.sportsground.com will provide a high level overview of the technology most commonly used today in sport, including websites, online registrations, member management & retention, e-Newsletters, e-Commerce & accounting, knowledge management, competition management and mobile apps. He will focus on the practical ways that savvy sports organisations are now using technology to reduce administrative burden while getting more people more active more often.

Diversity in Sport – Are we really catering to the needs of all our participants? We have a responsibility to cater for everyone. We will look at how we can serve the cultural needs of participants, how we can better cater for people with disabilities as well as looking at issues around gender diversity. Presented By: Bev Cassidy – Mackenzie, Director of Diversity Consulting

Social Media – Social Media has become a huge part of all our lives and it should be one of the key tools we are using to communicate with our audiences. Brent Ireland from Colab Digital will provide you with some insights on how to best utilize different social media platforms to engage with your audience and manage an online community. Engaging our Future – How are we keeping our members engaged? Why should the participant value your sporting product? We will be looking into membership numbers in comparison to participation and visiting the impact different offerings have on member and public engagement. How are things like Business House Leagues, Summer Competitions and Modified competitions impacting the way people engage in sport? Is there a need for a changed mindset in the way we are structuring and promoting competitions and other offerings?

Good Sports – Both practitioners and researchers supporting Good Sports agree that issues in children’s sport, such as poor side-line behaviour, early onset of overuse injury, burnout and disaffection with sport, stem from adult involvement in children’s sport and can ultimately hinder success on and off the field. To address these issues and give Kiwi kids the greatest chance of developing a lifelong love of sport, just as you may do, Good Sports believes we need to raise adults’ awareness about their behaviours in children’s sport, and if necessary promote a positive shift in that behaviour. Managing Player Behaviour through Building Relationships – As frontline coaches, managers, officials, and supporters, managing player behavior can always be a challenge. Tim Seaholme a UCOL Senior Lecturer in Exercise and Wellness will be looking at engaging athletes and delivering successful coaching sessions using relationship-based approaches found in teaching. In this session, we will look at how to set up an environment to increase engagement in learning, how to really know if you are successful, and explore why understanding relationship-based approaches can produce positive interactions with athletes.
