Novice Tour 2018

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Good luck to all our Junior riders who are competing in the 45th Novice Tour this week end.

This is a premier 3 stage tour run over 2 days around the Ashhurst area with some of the best junior talent in the country in attendance.

It’s a big undertaking and requires a lot of man power to make it happen on the day. Thank you to all the members who have volunteered in many ways over the week end.

If you are out riding in the area pull over and give the riders some support.

A1 Loops 22 September

Remember our next club road race is back at A1 Loops and that there is a volunteer roster that needs filling in order to run these races. Thanks to the few who have already put their name down. We need plenty more so that the same few people don’t have to run these races week after week.

Juniors are equally asked to put your name down. U17’s and above can be unaccompanied. Vehicle duties require a full licence. Anyone younger than U17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Here is the roster. Simply let Keryn know which duty and which event you would like to volunteer for.

Every time you volunteer you go into the draw to win 1 of 2 $100 Nero Restaurant

Cheers

Mike
