SUNDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2010 – MMCC INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL 20KM
The first MMCC championship event of 2010 on Sunday 28 February 2010 was the ITT 20km on the Ashhurst – Pohangina Valley Road out and back course. Entries from club members were only 17, 2 women and 15 men, which was disappointing.
We were joined by 5 non-members and nearly 60 Manawatu Schools cyclists competing in a Teams (2-up) TT 20km on the same course, both organisations helped run the joint event which went very smoothly. The event started promptly at 9AM in good conditions, slightly overcast with light northerly wind, MMCC members went first with all competitors finished before 11AM when we visited the Domain Cafe to announce the results.
Fastest times: Women – Leonora Pearson W45/49 a very smart 33.03; Men
– Neville Weir 45/49 a quick 29.20 and we must mention John Robson
70/74 with 37.42 which was about 1 min quicker than 2009, well done John. The men’s 45/49 age grade competition was healthy with 6
entries and less than 30 seconds separating the first 3 finishers.
Other than Men’s 45/49 age grade the other age grades entries were only 1 or 2.
There are 3 more Championship events, taking part in all 3 makes a member eligible to challenge for Grade Championships and Handicap Champions. Our next event is the Hill Climb at Ashhurst at 9AM on Sunday 21 March 2010 to be followed by 2 Track events with the date yet to be advised.
