Long Endurance Rides before Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Long Endurance Rides before Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

With so many of our members joining Colin Anderson as he marks off 100 official laps of the lake (and goodness knows how many unofficial laps), I thought it would be a good idea to organise 2 long endurance rides to help everyone log those miles in preparation.  These rides will also be useful for those doing the 1 lap event also.

Everyone is welcome to join us for these group rides, and will have a ‘no drop’ policy.  If we get large numbers interested, then we may separate in to smaller bunches to allow for differing levels of fitness and ability.

The first ride will be Sunday 8 September, and will be Apiti Loop.  There will be a coffee stop in either Feilding or back in town at the completion of the ride.

The second ride will be around 200km, and will most likely be a loop around to Pongaroa with a stop at the pub for lunch.  As this ride is a longer ride, and is reasonably challenging, we will have a support van and mechanic for this one, so a small contribution towards fuel and paying for the mechanics time will be required.

Please click on the link below to express your interest, so I can see how much interest there is in providing these rides.
