Essential Road Cycling Skills program

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

Following on from the successful Essential Road Cycling Skills program held last school holidays, Ross Castle is pleased to inform you of another skills program sponsored by SafeZone Training Systems during the second week of the October holidays.
It’s a 2 part program that’s integrated, and open to all ages.
Riders that have already done the Essentials 2 Day (last school holidays) can come on the days Advanced (Sports Performance) days 3&4.
Unless riders are pretty good at handling a bike (in mine or others opinion) then those that haven’t will have to complete days 1&2 before advancing.

The standard cost is $20/day or entire 4 day course incentive $17.50/day, and a current registered BikeManawatu or MMBC member $60. Lunch is provided each day, and multi-trip transport up Saddle Rd on day 4.
So…
Day 1&2         $40
Day 1,2,3,4     $70
Day 1,2,3,4     $60 if BikeManawatu or Manawatu Mountainbike Club member
There will be a booklet resource completed by riders as we progress thru the course.

Days 3 and 4 have a focus on Speed and Technology and will include; Performance testing at Massey University Sports Lab, Map My Ride, Video imaging and playback of riding and handling performance.
Program details on attachment.
