Bike Manawatu AGM/Quiz/Prize Giving Invitation to Members.

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

As Bike Manawatu Club Chairman and a board member of four years I am stepping down as chairman at this year’s AGM. I feel satisfied I have given something back to our club in a positive way during my board tenure along with five years of school cycling with my son and daughter. The platform is set for our new and passionate board to bring fresh ideas that will take our club to the next level. I will remain actively involved with our club doing other helpful things behind the scenes.

At the AGM I will introduce you to the new Bike Manawatu board. Mike Craine, Tim Lloyd, James Denholm, Andrew Ward, Michelle Turner, Megan Blatchford-Peck and Dan McKay. Also our outstanding new club secretary in Keryn Paekau who runs our club professionally. As a team we meet once per month for our board meetings, and in-between we are talking and communicating by email on decisions that are in the best interest of the club.
Your club is in good hands going forward.

Anzac Day a great day ride and remember

Many Bike Manawatu Members started out earlier on Anzac morning in amazing sunny fresh weather conditions to spend time on their bikes riding the scenic Manawatu Countryside with friends at a steady pace followed by a coffee or two and more banter.
At Mount Stewart War Memorial, Club character Murray Boase gave us all an emotional and sobering an Anzac remembrance speech which set the tone for the rest of the day.
