Awards Dinner – Nominations are required

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

The annual awards dinner will be held at Hotel Coachman on Friday 29th August.

Tickets are available from Sport Manawatu on Wednesday afternoons and Friday afternoons. For members the ticket price is $45 for non members $55.

Pre dinner drinks are from 6.15 pm with guests being seated for dinner at 7.15pm.

Guest speaker for the evening is Trevor Shailer – deputy chef de mission for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Special Awards that will be presented include the following

Jim Mason Cup There are many people involved in Bike Manawatu who are not members of the club as such but contribute to the club in various ways either because they are passionate about cycling or have children or family members involved in cycling. And it is important that we recognise and acknowledge the support and contribution of these people. This club wouldn’t be where it is today without the volunteers that give up their time to stand on the side of a road as a marshall, give their input into organising events, taking photos for the website or helping at registration or start/finish lines.

HUGHES FAMILY TROPHY is awarded to the Best All Round Club Member, not judged only on cycling abilities but also for commitment and contribution to helping the club in other areas.

Black Memorial trophy is awarded to the club rider for his attitude towards the club, racing performance and promoting the sport.  Last year the award went to John Stewart.

Nominations are now open and will close on Monday18th August at 3pm.
