The second Annual Bike Manawatu Awards Dinner was held on Friday night at Hotel Coachman. 
A good turn out of members and supporters were welcomed by the host of the evening Ken Young.
Ken started the evening by covering a few housekeeping matters, like emergency exits and what was the order of proceedings for the evening.
First up was the presentation of the “CHAMPIONS JERSEYS” to the girls. These were presented by Ian McKelvie.
Libby Arbuckle is National Champion in the under 15 age group having won the title in the Girls Time Trial in Queenstown a distance of 14km in a time of 24mins:59.687secs. Libby is also National Track Champion in 500M TIME TRIAL Under 15 Girls in a time of 41.305 secs.
Emily Shearman who also competed at the Age Group National Track Champs in Invercargill winning the Under 15 Girls DERBY also received a jersey.
Michaela Drummond who had competed at Queenstown and won the under 17 Girls National Champion title in the Road race over a distance of 59km which she completed in 1hour 40 mins 3 secs also received a Champions jersey.

After the main course and before dessert the next lot of awards were presented.
These went to the boys that were all national champions in there various events.
Josh Kendall was unable to attend on the night so his sister received his award on his behalf. Josh was part of both the under 17 pursuit team and the under 17 sprint team. 
Alex West is National Road Champion for 2013 having won the Under 17 Boys Road Race – 73.8km in a time of 1:55:38.
Carne Groube and Chris Denholm were the other members of the pursuit team that competed at Invercargill in the under 17 boys event.
They also received jerseys along with Cody Simpson who was part of the Sprint team.
There are 4 people in the pursuit team and 3 people in the sprint team so the name that has not been mentioned yet who was the other rider in both of these teams was Campbell Stewart.
He not only rode in the winning teams for the team pursuit and the team sprint but also is National Champion for 2013 in the under 17 boys 7.5KM SCRATCH RACE, SPRINT, 2000M INDIVIDUAL PURSUIT and 10KM POINTS RACE.
The guest speaker for the evening was Colin Anderson. This was conducted as an interview by Russel Harris local radio personality, who kept the questions flowing. Colin talked about his adventures and trials as a long distance endurance rider, recalling some of the people that have made his feats possible.
After dessert the final awards of the night were presented. 
The first of these was the Pedal Pushers Good Samaritan Award. This was presented by Garry Buys to Christine Christie for her good deeds in encouraging woman cyclists and (Putting up with Mike for 30 years) raising money for the local Cancer Society when she organised the Christie 250 R this year.
The next award was the Jim Mason Cup. This cup is presented to a person who is not a club member and not even a regular cyclist but does a lot for Bike Manawatu. This years recipient, Anne Redgrave, is the organiser for the Feilding Festival of Cycling and was presented her cup by Paul van Velthooven.Anne’s sons both used to cycle and that is how she first got involved with cycling in the Manawatu.
The Hughes Family trophy was presented by Brian Hughes to John Arbuckle and Vaughan Hunt. Both these men contribute such a lot to Bike Manawatu in their own way. John Arbuckle is the coordinator of Schools cycling and Vaughan Hunt is the webmaster and ensures that the weekly electronic newsletter goes out each week.
The final award of the night was the Black Memorial trophy. 
Black Memorial trophy is awarded to the club rider for his attitude towards the club, racing performance and promoting the sport. This year the award went to John Stewart.
This year John has rather than sitting in the grandstand at track racing got on a track bike and competed at club events and went on to compete at Centre and then National track champs in Invercargill. He achieved 3rd in the 10km points race, 4th in the 7.5km scratch race, also competing in the 2000m individual pursuit and 500m time trial in the Masters 2 age category.
John also participated in the National Road champs in Queenstown finishing 14th in the masters 3 road race over 102 km after leading for most of the way and suffering a mechanical in the final lap.
He participates regularly at club races and contributes to the school cycling programme and on the track committee. When not racing he is helping with marshalling or any other area that he is required. He also took on a role in the recent junior camp held at Massey.
