Cycling New Zealand have recently introduced a new membership system and requirements for all riders and affiliated clubs.
Following the RTX AGM in May this year, where there was a new membership structure put forward to clubs, Cycling New Zealand and RTX have been moving through the process to be able to make this come to life for 2023. This structure seeks to fulfil the membership intent of creating a membership environment where everyone in the sport of RTX can recognise themselves through a member option that provides a sense of belonging and value for all and where all are part of the cycling eco-system.

Unfortunately with these new requirements members can no longer just become a social member of Bike Manawatu – All memberships must be actioned via the Cycling NZ portal.

For all family memberships please either email or call Rebekah at Cycling New Zealand on membership@cyclingnewzealand.nz or 07 823 0716 and a special code will be created for you to use at the check out to ensure you are not overcharged for your family club membership

MEMBERSHIP & LICENCE OPTIONS

RTX riders and non-riders will have the following options for membership and licensing:
– RTX Sport Membership
– Cycling New Zealand Annual Race Licence Add-On
– Cycling New Zealand Event Licence Flexi Add-On
– Cycling New Zealand Technical Licence

Sport Memberships are the base membership offering for riders within these codes. Brought to you by RTX (the Member Organisation for Road, Track & Cyclocross), this membership is designed for those who are keen to get involved in club racing and other local club activities, but not currently racing at a National level.
What is an RTX Levy?
The RTX Levy contributes and supports the grassroots administration of the sport including
the development and regulation of the rules of racing, development of resources for clubs and
riders, the development and training of officials.

As a Sport Member you are entitled to:

  • Become a member of your local Road, Track or Cyclocross Club
  • Receive support through the affiliation insurance programme
  • Participate in Club Events
  • Receive an RTX Sport Membership Digital Licence
  • Gain access to member resources through RTX

Once you’ve signed up for your Sport Membership, you will now have the option of adding on a Cycling New Zealand Annual Race Licence.
This add-on caters to those who wish to step up to National-level racing, and is the required licence type for UCI-Category racing within New Zealand. It’s also the annual option for those non-UCI Category riders who race at multiple national championships. Through this licence type you will be eligible to compete in all national Road, Track & Cyclocross events on the calendar and other sanctioned events requiring a Cycling New Zealand licence (entry fees apply).

When you purchase an annual licence you are supporting Cycling New Zealand to deliver a national event calendar of safe and fair racing, and the ongoing training and development of national level officials.

By purchasing the Cycling New Zealand Annual Race Licence add-on to your Sport Membership, you are entitled to:

  • All of the benefits of a Sport Membership
  • Access to Events requiring a Race Licence (entry fees apply)
  • 2023 active UCI ID
  • Digital UCI Licence Card
  • Physical licence cards available on request

Keen to race but not ready to commit to an Annual Race Licence? This year we are introducing the Cycling New Zealand Event Licence to give you the flexibility to choose!
This add-on to the RTX Sport Membership is available for selected events for non-UCI categories, catering to those who want to give National-level racing a go, but don’t need a licence for the whole season.
For those who are likely to race at multiple National level events, we recommend the Annual licence.

When you purchase an event licence you are supporting Cycling New Zealand and our event partners to deliver a national event calendar of safe and fair racing, and the ongoing training and development of national level officials.

By purchasing the Cycling New Zealand Event Licence add-on to your Sport Membership, you are entitled to:

  • All of the benefits of a Sport Membership
  • Access to selected events which accept the Event Licence (non-UCI categories only)
  • Digital Event Licence card

We will continue to offer the Cycling New Zealand Technical Licence for all of our Coaches, Commissaires, Volunteers and Team Managers/Staff. This licence type is the best option for anyone in a non-riding role who requires a licence for official roles within cycling.
To recognise the commitment of our hardworking volunteers within clubs, for those who are engaging with the club system (by obtaining an RTX Sport Membership), this licence will be a free add-on to RTX Sport Memberships.
For those that wish to take out a Technical Licence directly (without obtaining an RTX Sport Membership) there will be an Annual Fee.

The Cycling New Zealand Technical Licence gives you access to:

  • Undertake official roles within cycling events in New Zealand
  • Digital UCI Licence Card
  • Physical licence cards available on request

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🚴‍♀️🚴🚴‍♂️

Quick ride before breakfast to celebrate Christmas

Our valued and longtime sponsor Garry Buys from Central Storage has planned the annual Christmas Day ride for 2022, leaving from the Evo cycles car park at 6am sharp on 25 December – as he can’t attend this year, Colin Anderson is in charge of the ride and festivities.
As a ‘double banger’ Garry is organising a New Year’s Day ride – Sunday 1 January 2023 leaving from memorial park at 8am – route to be advised closer to the date – dependant on the weather, and how many Xmas calories he consumed
This is a palmy north tradition, and we would love to see you all there

The last Trust House Race for 2022

Sunday was the final race in the Trusthouse North Island series, and the Wairarapa turned in a stunning day for us.

In CAT2, WCNI sponsored by Glenn Kirk Oral Surgeon, won the teams points for the series by a convincing margin, and they had a strong presence in the top 10 for the race with Wiremu Kaihau finishing 2nd, Charlie Studd 6th, Sam Wade 7th, Josh Mulcahy 8th and Jack Padega 9th in a sprint finish with only 9 seconds between first place and 10th place. Unfortunately Sam Wade didn’t finish the series in the leaders jersey, but held on to finish the series on the podium in 2nd place, while Josh Mulcahy finished 4th, Wiremu Kaihau 5th, with Jack Padega, Charlie Studd and Glenn Kirk in 6th, 7th and 9th place.

In CAT4, Palmfeilds Bike Manawatu finished in second place in the team points for the series, and Storage Manawatu in third place. For the final race, Blair Christian from Palmfeilds Bike Manawatu came 3rd, with team mates Patrick Johnstone 8th and Graham Hall 10th.
Patrick Johnstone finished the series in 5th place overall and Blair Christian 9th.

In CAT3, unfortunately Chris Harris from Bike Manawatu JT Coaching didn’t manage to keep the leaders jersey either, but finished the series in 3rd place. The team also finished 3rd in the team points for the series.

At the prize giving, two Palmfeilds Bike Manawatu team members were presented with jerseys, Patrick Johnstone was recognised for his participation and support for the series over a number of years, and Jessie Coxon received a jersey in recognition of a junior/youth female rider – congratulations Patrick and Jessie.

It has been another enjoyable series where Manawatu riders have again had some good successes and it has been fantastic to see all the supporters out there. Well done to all participants from our region – you have all represented us impeccably with both your abilities and your sportsmanship.
