Board photo 1 (to come at 6pm Thursday night)
As Bike Manawatu Club Chairman and a board member of four years I am stepping down as chairman at this year’s AGM. I feel satisfied I have given something back to our club in a positive way during my board tenure along with five years of school cycling with my son and daughter. The platform is set for our new and passionate board to bring fresh ideas that will take our club to the next level. I will remain actively involved with our club doing other helpful things behind the scenes.
At the AGM I will introduce you to the new Bike Manawatu board. Mike Craine, Tim Lloyd, James Denholm, Andrew Ward, Michelle Turner, Megan Blatchford-Peck and Dan McKay. Also our outstanding new club secretary in Keryn Paekau who runs our club professionally. As a team we meet once per month for our board meetings, and in-between we are talking and communicating by email on decisions that are in the best interest of the club.
Your club is in good hands going forward.
Bike Manawatu Chairman’s annual report
WCNI InterClub Champs- Halcombe
The success of InterClub racing has always been talked about for years by older passionate club members as being the best part of their cycling lives on and off the bike. Last weekend at Halcombe we witnessed that social aspect for keen cyclist aged from 13 to 78 years old from five different clubs who travelled to ride our Bike Manawatu InterClub Champs graded races. The day was then topped off with afternoon tea for everyone where the enjoyment really is for many. A great day was had by all.
The sun was shining, the 20km course was magic and everyone had an outstanding day on and off the bike. Graded races over,20,40,60,80km catered for everyone’s ability, age and stage of experience.
For some reason recreational riders who have built up mileage and experience remain uneasy about coming along to local club or InterClub rides. Last weekend confirmed how popular these days are and we would love to see more members involved in.
It is great fun, great training and riders and their supporters are not traveling long distances to stay overnight at exorbitant costs. Club members only pay $10 to enter which is a big bonus.
Next time up “Challenge yourself” and encourage your cycling buddies to join you for our upcoming club races. You and they might like it? In fact, we know you will.
