For all those keen to know how our WCNI cyclists fared at the first session of the Tier One event.
First up this morning we had Liam and Cody in Junior Mens sprint, Ruby and Michaela in Junior Women’s scratch and Jordan in his first outing as an Elite rider.
Liam and Cody rode well in qualifying, with Liam qualifying third and so earning himself a spot in semi-finals and finals tonight. We understand he will be facing off against Lewis who has recently been to Korea..looking forward to the riding tonight.
Jordan qualified in the top 16 elite men, then was up against Eddie Dawkins! Eddie took the win but Jordan was happy with his ride and really enjoyed it.
Ruby rode an awesome scratch race to end up with the silver medal. With only 7 riders the pace was high from the start with the NZ girls being under instruction to make some attacks. With Michaela being one of these girls and following this instruction well!
Tonight we just have Liam on the boards, will update later! And Simon van Velthooven
Boys – Simon and Liam – finished semis ride. Both riding for bronze later on tonightRuby with the silver in the elimination race and Michaela with Gold.
Carne with silver medal in scratch raceCampbell with gold medal in Elimination race
WCNI riders have a not good session at the velodrome.
A number of Kierin heats were cancelled this morning, heading straight to finals this evening, which made for a slightly shorter session this am.
First up was Jordan in the elite mens keirin, jordy had the pleasure of lining up against Shane Perkins…very fast race. Jordy through to repercharge. Simon V was one of the first 2 over the line in his heat straight to next round for him.
In Jordys repercharge a close race saw him just miss out on second in a photo finish.
Ruby and Michaela lined up in the junior women’s eliminations – awesome to see these 2 go one and two in this event.
Carne, Cody and Campbell lined up for the jnr mens elimination next. Campbell successful in taking this away from Nick Kergozu.
Finally our same three junior boys lined up for the 10km scratch. A very fast race right from the gun (welcome to u19!). Carne ended up taking the silver here behind Nick K.
Tonight more sprinting action with lots of Kierin racing. Brownos and Cody for jnr Kierin and Simon with the big boys!
