2nd Long Endurance Training Ride – 12 Oct 2019

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

2nd Long Endurance Training Ride – 12 Oct 2019

We are less than 3 weeks out from the 2nd long endurance training ride to Pongaroa on Saturday 12 October, so it’s now time to register.

The reason that you are required to register for this ride as that we are having our lunches supplied by Bike Manawatu sponsor Rosebowl Bakery, and we need definite numbers. We are doing it this way because there has been a lot of interest in the ride, and unfortunately the pub will not be able to get us all fed and back on the road quickly. We will be stopping at the Pongaroa Domain for lunch.

The cost for the ride will be $20, and that is to cover the costs of the lunches, support vehicle and driver/mechanic. The $20 is payable to the driver on the day.

If you want to attend this ride, you must register by Wednesday 9 October as we will not be taking any registrations on the day.

We will be meeting at 7am on Saturday 12 October in the Bike Barn carpark, and you are able to put a small bag in the van with anything that you might need on the day. We will split in to groups based on ability, but everyone will be catered for. Register now by clicking the link below – we’d love to see you.
