2015 Schools National Road Cycling championships

Despite the current ‘cost of living challenges’ facing all community events, Bike Manawatu is 100% committed to ensuring the 51st year of the Novice Tour – once again provides a safe, fun, competitive cycle racing event.

We will adopt a high-quality assured approach in implementing the Local Roading Authority’s/Cycling New Zealand’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) standards which ensure best practices and rider and spectator safety.

If the level of community funding secured is not sufficient to contract in external road management service providers with the ability to stop/go traffic, the Novice Tour will proceed on a ‘local club racing’ model, whereby our team of trained/experienced road marshals will, where necessary, pause racing in order to give way to traffic and ensure rider safety.

Although funding  external road management services with the ability to stop/go traffic is ideal, if this is not feasible – we are confident that the event’s ‘Safe Traffic Management System’ (STMS) will provide a competitive, fair, enjoyable and importantly safe racing environment.

Irrespective of which model of traffic management/racing is finalised, as with all CNZ/Bike Manawatu events, normal road rules will apply and a full rider briefing confirming the event rules will be provided to all riders prior to the start of each race.

We are good to go for 2015 Schools National Road Cycling championships!

An exciting change to the top school competition!!!
There will be 2 divisions
Top Senior Boys and Girls School
H.A Joli cup and A.J Drake Cup
For years 9-13
Top Junior Boys and Girls School
Chris Ginders Cup and Marie Laycock Cup
For years 7&8.
Points will be earned as in the past.
We anticipate only one crossover grade … The u14 races. Those age group competitors will take their points to their respective divisions.
Eg if a year8 wins the u14 road races and a year 9 is second the year 8 takes his points to the junior competition and the year9 to the senior competition!
Important Notice – Nationals Road Race, Day Two.
After careful consideration by Race Officials, the Traffic Safety team and Event Organisers, it has been decided to run the Road Race as a left turn circuit. While riders will have to take extreme care negotiating the quick down hill sharp left turn from Watershed Road onto Colyton Road, this change will make all intersections and the finish much safer. Please note the new finish line on the attached map.
